The Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), as Malta’s designated EQAVET National Reference Point (NRP), participated in the EQAVET Annual Network Meeting (ANM) 2025 held in Warsaw. The meeting gathered 64 participants from 32 countries, including both EU and non-EU states, along with representatives from the European Commission, ETF, Cedefop, and OECD.
Dr Therese Camilleri attended on behalf of Malta’s NRP and MFHEA, engaging in peer dialogue and strategic planning on the future direction of quality assurance in Vocational Education and Training (VET).
This year’s meeting focused on the evolving European policy context, notably the European Commission’s new initiative, the Union of Skills. Discussions centred on how NRPs, including Malta’s, can contribute to this strategic framework, particularly in advancing basic and transversal skills, digital readiness, and sustainability in VET systems.
Representatives took part in sessions covering:
The STEM Education Strategic Plan, which includes ambitious targets for increasing participation in STEM fields among VET learners, particularly females.
The revised Europass Mobility tool, aimed at better recognising cross-border learning experiences
Evolving quality assurance mechanisms in Continuing VET (CVET) and micro-credentials
The role of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in developing curricula and promoting inclusion, particularly for neurodiverse learners.
Through interactive workshops and thematic discussions, Malta shared its national insights while also benefiting from comparative peer learning. Other NRPs presented key initiatives on digital peer reviews (Italy), learner voice in QA (Ireland), and integrated use of data in quality improvement (Netherlands), offering relevant reflections for Malta’s own NRP strategy.
Moving forward, Malta’s NRP reaffirmed its commitment to the 2027–2029 EQAVET work programme and supporting the network’s communications strategy 2024–2026, including active participation in future webinars and peer learning activities.
MFHEA, through its NRP function, remains committed to ensuring that Malta’s VET system is aligned with EU quality standards, inclusive, and equipped to meet emerging labour market and learner needs.
